Stupid and Grave TMJD Treatment Blunders
Harry Cooperman D.D.S.DIGEST
Consensus has not been developed across the practicing dental and medical community regarding which Temporo-Mandibular-Disorder (TMD) problems should be treated, and when and how they should be treated. The preponderance of the data do not support the
superiority of any method of initial management of most TMD problems.DISCUSSION
The efficacy of most TMD approaches is unknown as most have not been adequately evaluated in long term studies and virtually none in randomized controlled trials.
Although non invasive therapies are clearly preferred for the vast majority of TMD problems, a small percentage of patients who have persistent and significant pain and dysfunction and for whom conservative treatment has failed may be considered for possible surgical intervention. Professional education is needed to ensure the proper and safe practice in the treatment of TMD, especially with regard to pharmacological, surgical, and other approaches. The International Academy of Myodontics (IAM) have terminated their research on TMD and, First, replaced the terms TMJ and TMJD with their synonym of the disorder, Mandible Malposture Disorder (MMD).
Second, a new reversible dental approach for its solution is presented.
Some previously unsuccessful attempts consisted of intra oral plastic or metal splints along with dentist and physician suggested possible reliefs, which rarely stopped the pains nor produced the expected solution to MMD.
IAM research the following patients
1. MMD sufferers that wear complete upper and lower dentures.
2. Dental planes of patients whom have teeth.
3. History of intra-oral wearers of splints/bite plates.
4. History of MMD irreversible patient treatments.
5. Did orthodontia precede MMD?
6. Did tooth removals precede MMD?
7. Were non-invasive treatments used?
8. Doctor explanations prior to treatments.MMD treatments by Academy of Myodontics will produce ORTHOPEDIC MANDIBLE SHIFT of the mandible. Production of neutro-occlusion INTRA-ORAL OVERLAY PROSTHESIS is described in Japanese myodontic texts.
Insert maxilla and mandibular teeth overlays in patient's mouth. Resultive Mandible Orthopedic Shift of mandible should stop MMD pains and discomforts.
